About Laser Hair Removal

Hair removal with a laser has become one of the most popular elective aesthetic services done in America. It's an effective way for the long-lasting removal of hair on the face and body. Our Dallas, TX MedSpa uses both the Candela GentleLASE and Candela GentleYAG Lasers, which are known to be some of the most powerful lasers on the market for laser hair removal on all skin types. Our McKinney location uses the Candela GentleLASE machine.

We see patients in our offices for full body laser hair removal services. The laser will thin and soften the unwanted hair throughout a series of treatments. This will significantly reduce hair growth, especially for women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). This laser treatment usually leaves the skin feeling and looking smoother. It can provide longer-lasting results compared to other common hair removal options. Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Naveen Setty and his aesthetics team at Setty Plastics & Aesthetics now offer laser hair removal services for both women and men in commonly desired areas like the legs, arms, back, face, chest, bikini area, and more.

Ideal Candidates

Hair removal with a laser is an elective treatment that is helpful for many people. At your initial consultation, we will discuss your concerns, needs, and goals so we can decide how you may best benefit from this treatment. Ideal candidates for laser hair removal treatments:

  • Want to reduce hair on their face or body
  • Want to stop using other techniques for hair removal (waxing, shaving, bleaching, or depilatory creams)
  • Have light skin and dark hair
  • Are in good, overall physical health

Procedure Technique

On the day of your procedure, you will lie in a private treatment room as areas of the face and body are washed to eliminate oil, dirt, lotions or creams. During the procedure, an aesthetician will smooth out the area that is being treated to create a clear pathway between the hair follicle root and the laser. The energy from the laser will focus on and destroy the follicle, which prevents the hair from growing again. Typically, you will need to get 3 – 5 treatments over 3 – 4 weeks to get high-grade results. Your sessions are staggered to give the affected areas a chance to heal. It also allows time for follicles in the dormant hair growth phase to change to active growth so the laser can treat as many active follicles as possible. The revolutionary laser technology we use at Setty Plastics & Aesthetics targets only the hair follicle, which preserves the skin and other tissues.

What to Expect

Although this procedure is mostly gentle, your skin may look like it has a mild sunburn when lasers are applied to the skin. Regardless of the redness, after your treatment, you can go back to all normal activities. Dr. Setty may ask you to avoid strenuous activity or extended time outdoors for at least a day to let the treated skin recover. At home following a treatment, we suggest applying soothing creams or ice packs to minimize any discomfort.

Patient Questions

Does laser hair removal work on all hair colors?

While laser settings can be adapted for different hair colors, laser-hair removal is most effective on dark, coarse hair and is less effective on fine, light hair. During a pre-treatment consultation, a technician will determine if the treatment will work for you.

Does Laser Hair Removal hurt?

Patients usually report minor pain similar to small pin pricks during the procedure. For a few days after the treatment, the treated area may be slightly red and inflamed.

Is Laser Hair Removal safe?

Yes, lasers destroy hair without harming the surrounding skin.

Can I wear makeup or deodorant on the treatment areas before a Laser Hair Removal?

Any makeup or deodorant on the treatment areas should be removed prior to treatment.

Should I shave, wax, or pluck before Laser Hair Removal?

It is recommended that you shave with a clean, new razor the day before the treatment so the lasers can better locate the follicles. Don’t wax or pluck, however, as that disturbs the follicle and can interfere with the success of the treatment. You should wait at least six weeks after waxing before receiving laser hair removal.

Why do I need multiple sessions of Laser Hair Removal?

Multiple sessions are needed to achieve effective results with laser hair removal because of hair growth cycles. Other considerations include hair density, body part, rate of re-growth and individual reaction.

Why can't you do Laser Hair Removal on blonde or gray hair?

In a nutshell the laser is attracted to the pigmentation and there is not enough pigment in blonde and gray hair for Laser Hair removal to be effective.

What is a Broadband Light photofacial?

A photofacial using Broadband Light energy is commonly used for rosacea treatment, age spot removal, the minimizing of small facial veins and sun spots, and many other skin conditions.

What is the benefit of a hydrafacial?

It is a medical-grade facial rejuvenation that cleanses, detoxifies, exfoliates, extracts and hydrates in one treatment. It is appropriate for all skin types. It also helps with fine line and wrinkles, pore size, and hyperpigmentation.
