Is a Thigh Lift for You?

Thigh lift surgery targets loose skin, making it an excellent choice for individuals post-weight loss, particularly those who have lost a significant amount (over 50-100 pounds). It's also beneficial for older adults experiencing skin sagging due to aging or women post-pregnancy. The ideal candidates for a thigh lift in Dallas & McKinney with Dr. Setty often have concerns about loose, hanging, or wrinkled skin on their upper thighs and are in good overall health, maintaining a stable weight. However, it's important to note that cellulite is a different issue and might require alternative treatments.

Thigh Lift Techniques

Performed under general anesthesia at our surgical center, the thigh lift involves an incision placed in the natural fold where the thigh meets the torso. Dr. Setty strategically excises excess skin and sometimes performs liposuction if needed to remove stubborn fat, resulting in a tighter and more contoured appearance for the entire thigh area. Some patients may require additional incisions to address specific areas of concern. The choice of technique is determined by Dr. Setty after consulting with you on your desired results. Based on those concerns and the areas that require enhancement, your procedure may be one of the following:

Inner Thigh Lift (Medial Thigh Lift)

This procedure primarily focuses on lifting and tightening the inner thigh area. An incision is made in the groin crease and/or along the inner thigh extending from the groin to the knee, allowing Dr. Setty to remove excess skin and fat. This technique addresses sagging in the inner thighs, providing a smoother, more toned look to this region.  Often the front and back of the thighs can see significant improvement with a more smooth and toned appearance.

Outer Thigh Lift (Lateral Thigh Lift)

Concentrating on the outer thighs, this procedure involves an incision that extends from the groin around the hip or sometimes an incision directly over the outer thigh (saddlebag) area. It effectively removes excess skin and fat, contouring the outer thighs for a more defined, balanced appearance.  The outer thighs can also be addressed during a lower body lift.

Thigh Lift Surgery Recovery

The procedure duration is approximately 2 to 3 hours, with initial recovery lasting a few days, including swelling and bruising. After the rest period, patients are encouraged to start light activities to aid in circulation and faster healing. Full recovery can take 6 to 8 weeks, with Dr. Setty providing wound care instructions to ensure discreet incision healing and improved leg contour.

Thigh Lift FAQ

Will a thigh lift remove cellulite or stretch marks?

What about a nonsurgical thigh lift?

What about loose skin around the knees?

Will a thigh lift remove cellulite or stretch marks?

Thigh lift surgery is effective in enhancing the contour and appearance of your legs. By tightening the skin and addressing stubborn fat pockets, it can potentially improve the look of cellulite and stretch marks on your legs. If these concerns are a priority for you, feel free to discuss them with Dr. Setty during your consultation. He can personalize your treatment plan to meet your specific aesthetic goals.

How long will my results last?

Your results can be sustained for many years if you maintain a healthy weight, stick to regular exercise, and follow a balanced diet post-surgery. Dr. Setty advises being at or near a healthy and stable weight before undergoing a thigh lift, which facilitates maintaining the results. However, significant weight changes or pregnancy following the surgery might affect the appearance. During your consultation, Dr. Setty will provide guidance on how to preserve and protect your results.

Can I combine a thigh lift with other surgeries?

Many patients combine a thigh lift with other procedures such as a tummy tuck to achieve a lower body lift. Thighplasties are also frequently part of after weight loss surgery or a mommy makeover. In your initial consultation, share your aesthetic goals with Dr. Setty so he can develop a comprehensive surgical plan tailored to yield the best possible outcomes for you.

What about a nonsurgical thigh lift?

While nonsurgical procedures may offer minor improvements in reducing body fat and tightening skin, a surgical thigh lift is the most effective solution for correcting significant sagging skin and fat pockets on the thighs. If you're contemplating nonsurgical treatments, seek more information from Dr. Setty during your initial consultation. He'll discuss the advantages and disadvantages of both nonsurgical and surgical procedures and suggest the best option suited to your goals.

What about loose skin around the knees?

During a medial thigh lift, the incision can be carried to or past the knees which will address some of the loose skin and fullness to the inner knee. If there is significant loose skin above the knees, sometimes a direct skin removal is required to fully correct that area.
