About Liposuction
Dallas, TX board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Naveen Setty, offers many advanced techniques to remove your unwanted, undesirable fat. Lipo, or liposuction, is a reshaping procedure that removes pockets of fat from the flanks, tummy, buttocks, thighs, and more to create a slimmer appearance. Without the help of liposuction, it can be seemingly impossible to achieve the slimming outcomes you want to achieve. There are several types of liposuction offered today with technology advancing frequently. The most common type performed in the U.S. today is called tumescent liposuction with a traditional, power-assisted, or ultrasound-assisted liposuction tool and technique depending on how difficult the fat is to remove. We also offer laser-assisted lipolysis with SmartLipo Triplex, which is less invasive (as a laser dissolves the fat so that it can be suctioned out with a cannula). You may also be interested in learning more about our nonsurgical options such as CoolSculpting, SculpSure, and radiofrequency ablation for small treatment areas. Of course, to get the optimal result and dramatic change in your shape, liposuction is the more successful option.
Liposuction at Setty Plastics & Aesthetics can be combined to treat multiple body parts or assist in other types of plastic surgery, such as a mommy makeover or a fat transfer surgery. When he sees you for your consultation in any of our three offices, Dr. Naveen Setty will assess your problem areas and together, you will discuss which method(s) are best during the initial consultation visit.

Ideal Candidates
Fat removal surgery is a good treatment for men and women who are at an ideal weight but have lumpy areas of fat that have been hard to lose with exercise and diet. Individuals contemplating liposuction should have skin that is taut because liposuction is not a treatment for loose or sagging skin. It's also important to realize that liposuction is not an answer for weight loss. Women of childbearing age undergoing liposuction should keep in mind that pregnancy will compromise the area that has had liposuction. At the time of your consult for surgery, Dr. Setty will convey honest expectations.
Surgical Techniques
Surgical liposuction is completed in an outpatient setting with the patient under general anesthesia. A small incision is placed into the skin so that our cannulas (of various sizes) can be inserted to help Dr. Setty reshape and contour the area he is reducing. He will also be injecting tumescent fluid (with numbing medication and epinephrine) to assist in preventing excessive blood loss and bruising. The cannula is a tube that makes it easier to separate the fatty tissue that is being removed. After the fatty deposits have been suctioned out, Dr. Setty will seal the small absorbable sutures. Based on the amount of sections receiving treatment, your procedure may take several hours. In the separate area for recovery, your post-op team will assist you with managing any pain, dress the area with a compression dressing (or garment), and monitor your vitals until you are discharged.
What to Expect
The first thing we want you to try to do is to take a light walk after you come out of recovery from liposuction. This will help your blood circulation and help prevent clots from forming. Also, wearing the compression garments will assist in your recovery as well. Every patient recovers at his or her own pace but resting for several weeks is not unusual for our lipo patients. Your recovery time is based on how you feel, the amount of fat taken, and the number of areas treated. It's also typical to have bruising and swelling for 1– 2 weeks. The most important thing to do following lipo surgery is to give your body time to recover and heal. When you are ready to go back to your job after your surgery, you need to remember to go slow. To increase your strength and stamina, try short walks and light workouts as advised by Dr. Setty. Bear in mind you may have some improvements soon after your surgery, but it will take around 6 – 10 months until your new body contour and shape looks its best.
Liposuction FAQ
What about cellulite and loose skin?
Liposuction surgery only addresses excess fat in the body. For loose skin, Dr. Setty may suggest combining liposuction with a surgical body lift. Liposuction is often done with skin tightening surgery, such as a tummy tuck, thighplasty, or arm lift, to produce the best results. To correct cellulite, there are several minimally invasive and nonsurgical treatment options. During your consultation, tell Dr. Setty about your concerns like loose skin and cellulite so a comprehensive treatment plan can be created.
Will I have scars after liposuction?
Since liposuction is an invasive surgery, incisions will need to be made and sutured. This will cause scars, but Dr. Setty does his best to minimize their appearance. This starts with making thin incisions in the natural folds of your body or in less visible areas. After your surgery, Dr. Setty or a member of his team will explain how to care for your incisions so they heal flat and eventually fade.
Will my results from liposuction last?
Before you have liposuction surgery, it's important to be prepared to maintain your results. Although liposuction reduces the number of fat cells in your body, you can still lose and gain weight. Dr. Setty suggests that you be at or near a healthy weight before having liposuction. Afterward, it's best to stay within 5 – 10 pounds of your post-surgical weight. Getting pregnant after liposuction will also affect your results; however, another surgery or mommy makeover can be done to refresh your appearance.
How much does liposuction cost?
The liposuction will vary based on the technique being used and the amount of areas being treated. During your consultation, Dr. Setty will create your custom liposuction surgical plan based on your needs and goals. He will also consider your budget. Once your plan is ready, estimated costs can be discussed. To make your surgery easy to afford, Setty Plastics accepts several payment methods, and we can help you find low-interest medical financing.
What about nonsurgical liposuction?
There are many nonsurgical procedures to reduce body fat. Some of the most popular brands are CoolSculpting, UltraShape, Vanquish, Liposonix, and KYBELLA. Although some of these nonsurgical treatments can help reduce small amounts of fat, surgical liposuction is still best for most people. Liposuction surgery delivers more consistent and dramatic results. Ask Dr. Setty about nonsurgical lipo in your consultation. He will go over the benefits of all your options and help you choose which is best for your needs and goals.
Can I have multiple areas treated during a single liposuction session?
The amount of areas treated during liposuction depends on the extent of the procedure. Dr. Setty will assess your needs, considering factors such as your overall health, the areas to be treated, and the expected duration of the surgery to determine whether it's safe and feasible to address multiple areas in one session.
