About Gynecomastia
If your chest does not look as masculine as you would like or you have breast tenderness and sensitivity, schedule a consultation with board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Naveen Setty today. He will help you determine whether gynecomastia surgery is the right option for you. The scientific term "gynecomastia" is used for enlarged male breasts. This condition is one that can create a feminine chest appearance due to abnormally growing breast tissue. Many times, gynecomastia is related to an unknown hormonal issue. It can also be due to certain medications, steroids, obesity, or it can be hereditary. Males with this condition typically feel self-conscious, especially in situations where the upper body and chest are seen such as at the beach or pool or while at the gym. Dr. Setty performs male breast reduction surgery with a high success rate and is considered one of the more common cosmetic procedures for men at Setty Plastics & Aesthetics.
Gynecomastia is relatively common in teenage boys and occurs in one in four men between the ages of 50 – 69. Sometimes, excess male breast volume is mainly fat rather than breast tissue and can be reduced to some extent through diet and exercise. Some men choose to hide it or even gain weight to make the problem appear less obvious. This surgery is recommended when all other options to reduce the excess breast tissue or fat have been exhausted. In teenage boys, gynecomastia usually subsides on its own within six months to two years. Dr. Setty is uniquely qualified to perform this surgery because he is highly trained and experienced. He is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and regularly sees male breast reduction patients in Dallas and McKinney, TX.
Ideal Candidates
Male breast reduction surgery is reserved for men who have enlarged breasts that cannot be reduced through a healthy lifestyle or exercise and diet. If you feel bothered by the appearance of your chest, yet are physically healthy, you could possibly benefit from gynecomastia surgery by Dr. Setty at Setty Plastics & Aesthetics. Teenagers may also have good results from gynecomastia treatment; however, a secondary procedure may be warranted in future years as an adult if abnormal breast tissue continues to form. In your initial consultation with Dr. Setty, treatment considerations will be given, including the possibility of undergoing surgery to correct the condition.

Surgical Technique
Dr. Setty uses liposuction to treat gynecomastia with you safely under general anesthesia. He will remove excess fat, and if any excess glandular tissue is present, it is excised. Excess skin will also need to be excised when the breasts are very large. Incisions are made around the areolas, and scars are typically not noticeable over time as they blend into the pigmented area of the areola. The nipple and areola will be surgically reshaped and placed into a proper position. For most men, this method requires an incision close to where the glandular tissue collects. After the pockets of fat and excess skin have been removed, Dr. Setty will pull the remaining skin tight.
What To Expect
Following gynecomastia surgery, your chest will be wrapped with a compression bandage to help control bruising and swelling. For complex cases where a reconstructive method was used, a small tube for draining may be placed to help with drainage. The results following male breast reduction surgery are almost immediately noticeable and most men are extremely satisfied with the cosmetic enhancement. Any incisions made during treatment take several weeks to heal and any scars left behind are barely noticed. After male breast reduction, it may take some time to realize your results as the swelling, bruising, and tenderness subside. Once these temporary effects resolve (for the most part) within the first few weeks of the recovery period, you should be able to start appreciating your flatter, more masculine chest. Your male breast reduction results will continue to improve over the next several months.
